A graduate of Dillard University of New Orleans where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts, followed by her M.Ed+30 from the University of New Orleans. Dr. Hicks returned to Dillard for her Doctorate.

She has served as President- Principal's Association of New Orleans Public Schools; President- Louisiana Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (LASCD)
